"The Diversity King" - process

As promised - here are some pictures to tell you a little story about creation of the Diversity King illustrations :)

I started with making notes and drawing silly doodles while reading a printout of the text. Then I did some rough sketches in my sketchbook to play with different compositions, characters, etc. At the same time I sent some words describing my approach to selecting places that needed to be illustrated to author and soon got his "go" :)

After I had developed solutions to most of the problems I saw I did some rough but better rendered sketches and sent them to author with minor text comments. I received overall approval with some minor adjustments and started working on detailed drawings.

Then came inking, then play with color solutions, then scanning and more color play and then combining everything for the final art.

"The Diversity King"

The Diversity King is a story written by Dr. Paul L. Gerhardt - it's about good things that come from diversity. I had a great time illustrating this feature and will be placing a short "process" report" here in my blog.

All final illustrations can be found on my web-site.

And you can browse part of the content from the lulu web-site:
